Obituary for Walter Ruggles Snowden

SNOWDEN, WALTER RUGGLES, age 73, of Harrison, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his home under the care of Mid Michigan Hospice.

A Memorial Luncheon for Walter will be held in Reflections Reception Center at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 3 p.m. Graveside Services for Walter will be held at Chippewa Township Cemetery on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ron Vrederveld officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the Committal Service at the cemetery.

Walter was born June 16, 1944, in Port Huron, the son of William and Mary Lee (Tipkey) Snowden. He graduated from Lapeer High School with the class of 1962. Walter served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 as a paratrooper and in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971 as a Medic during the Vietnam War. Walter loved playing guitar, making rings, and working with leather. He married Beverly K. Nelson on June 18, 1982, in Somerville, Texas. He was a member of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.

Walter is survived by his wife, Beverly Nelson of Harrison; 5 children, Julie Bullock of Fowler, Tracy Credit of Lapeer, Kevin Snowden of Davison, Talitha Snowden of Mt. Pleasant, and Emma Snowden of Harrison; brother, William Snowden of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Leanne Snowden of Suttons Bay; and nephews, J.D. Snowden, Shad Snowden, and William Snowden.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Brett Snowden.
