SMITH, WILLIAM M., JR., age 82, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Bill will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 27, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeremy Selvidge officiating. A Luncheon will be held in the Reflections Reception Center following the funeral service. The family will receive friends on the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Bill was born on August 14, 1935, in Wayne County, IL, the son of Maurice and Grace (Malone) Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Bill married Shirley J. Wickiser on June 18, 1960. He retired from Enveron-Jennings Petroleum, and helped build the gas plant in Manistee. Bill began working in the oil fields with his father when he was younger, and continued for over 55 years. He enjoyed hunting with his father when he was younger, gardening, and always loved his white fluffy dogs.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Tommy (Kelly) Smith of Wooster, OH; granddaughters, Lindsey (Matthew) Mingus of Gallup, NM, and Rachel (Jarred Williams) Smith of Westlake, OH; one great-grandson, Isaac Smith-Mingus; sister, Carla Ann (Everett) Foster of Fairfield, IL; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Florence “Flossie” Wickiser of Anderson, SC; and two special friends Kirk Miller of Mt. Pleasant and Byron Methner of Houghton Lake.

Bill was preceded in death by his sons, Jim and Don Smith; mother-in-law Leah Belle Wickiser; brother-in-law Gary Wickiser; and his parents.
