Obituary for David Charles Long

David Charles  Long
LONG, DAVID CHARLES, age 68, of Mount Pleasant passed away Monday, January 29, 2018.

A Celebratory Gathering for David will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 2, from 5 until 8 p.m. with a Celebration of David's Life at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, 4100 John R. St., Detroit, MI 48201. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

David was born on September 18, 1949, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Jack and Kathleen (Schultz) Long. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science from Central Michigan University. David married Bridget Halpin on June 10, 1972, in Traverse City. David loved working in the oil fields, where he worked most of his life. He was a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association. He enjoyed watching both professional and collegiate sports, but more importantly, his children and grandchildren's sporting events. David spent many vacations with the family in Northern Michigan, from Cadillac to the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bridget Long; children, David (Anne) Long of Southfield, Meaghan (Michael) Larsen of Haslett, Blake Long of Mt. Pleasant, and Caitlin (Chelsey Cody) Long of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, David Charles Long III, Maddy Larsen, Caleb Larsen, and Kerstin Larsen; brother, Robert (Jeanne) Long; sisters, Sandra (Robert) Kullman, Sharon Picken, Susan (Ron) Langworthy, Patricia Long, Pamela (Glen) Williams, Nancy (Joseph) Lauer, and Kathy (Brian) Trisel, all of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, Markeita Long of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, James Isaac Long; brother Jack Long; and nephew, Nicholas Pflaum.
