Jack was born on May 18, 1929, in Detroit, the son of Ruby Irene (Hawley) and Joseph Byron West. He resided in Berkley, MI and Farmington Hills, MI prior to moving to Lake Isabella, MI in 2002. Jack graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1947 and then attended Lawrence Tech of Southfield. He was employed as a gage maker for Master Gage of Berkley, becoming part-owner in 1991. After retiring in 1993 from full-time employment, he enjoyed part-time employment with Gorman Golf of Southfield, MI, and enjoyed sharing golf stories with co-workers and customers. Jack served as a lay minister in the Garden City Restoration Church. He was a devoted fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, Sudoku, reading, and bowling. Jack’s main passions were his family and golf. He was president of the VFW League at San Marino Golf Course in Farmington Hills, winning league championship three consecutive years. He scored a hole-in-one while in Tennessee. After moving to Lake Isabella, he played in leagues at Pleasant Hills and The Pines. He was proud of his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s achievements and enjoyed watching them in their various activities. He was known for his quick wit, bringing many a chuckle to family and friends.

Jack married Virginia Lee (Turner) on September 10, 1977. Surviving him are his wife and his extended family; sons, David West, Eric (Cheryl) West; daughter, Diane (David) Nelson; step-sons, Stephen (Jean) Slasor, Michael (Anne) Slasor, Ronald Slasor, and Scott (Landa) Slasor; twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
