Ruth S.  MacDonald
MacDONALD, RUTH S., age 102, of Mt. Pleasant and a former longtime resident of Houghton, MI, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

A Memorial Service for Ruth will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Diane Gordon and Rev. Ronald Thompson officiating. Interment of cremains will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant or Grace United Methodist Church in Houghton.

Ruth was born on December 13, 1912, in Kenton, MI, the daughter of William H. and Ednah Browning (Lewis) Shingler. She married Donald J. MacDonald on August 23, 1935, in Kenton. Ruth received her R.N. degree and last worked for Houghton County Medical Care Facility and previously TB Sanitarium and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hancock. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Houghton and an affiliate member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her two children Donald MacDonald of Mission Viejo, CA and Janet (Ray) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren Marjory Collins of Gahanna, OH, Jennifer Johnson of Rochester Hills, Jeff (Jennifer) Johnson of Haddonfield, NJ, and Lisa Commack of Smartville, CA; five great-grandchildren, Jack Collins, Luke Collins, Ellie Johnson, Will Johnson, and Ben Johnson; her sister Kathleen Weston of Grosse Pointe; three nieces and three nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Donald J. MacDonald; her parents; and her two brothers, Keith and William Shingler.
